Scientifically proven post-operative care procedures after rhinoplasty.

The success of a rhinoplasty surgery depends 50% on the surgeon’s technique and 50% on the patient’s home care. Proper post-operative care helps the wound heal quickly, reduces swelling, and ensures the nose shape remains stable and beautiful without shifting.

Clean the wound and control swelling.

The nasal area is very sensitive after surgery and needs to be kept clean to avoid the risk of infection, while measures to reduce swelling should be applied to shorten the recovery time.

  • Nasal hygiene: Use a clean cotton swab soaked in physiological saline solution (0.9% NaCl) to gently wipe around the incision, nostrils, and nasal cavity daily. Always keep the wound dry and absolutely avoid getting tap water on the nose until the stitches are removed.

  • Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling and bruising:

    • During the first 48 hours: Apply cold compresses around the cheeks, forehead, and eyes (avoid applying directly to the bridge of the nose) to reduce swelling. Wrap the ice in a plastic bag and then in a clean towel to prevent ice from leaking into the wound.

    • From day 3 onwards: Switch to warm compresses to improve blood circulation, helping bruises heal faster.

A balanced exercise and lifestyle

After surgery, the implant material and nasal structure have not yet fully integrated with the surrounding tissues, so special attention should be paid to sleeping position and daily activities.

  • Maintaining the shape of the nose: Wear the nasal splint continuously for 5 to 7 days as directed by your doctor to protect the nose from accidental external impacts.

  • Sleeping position: When sleeping, lie on your back with a pillow higher than your chest to support blood circulation and reduce facial swelling. Absolutely do not sleep on your stomach or side, as the pressure can cause the nose to become misaligned or crooked while the bones and cartilage are not yet fixed.

  • Avoid strong impacts: Do not touch, scratch, or press on the nose area. Avoid strenuous sports activities, heavy lifting, bending your head too low, and wearing heavy-framed glasses for at least the first month (contact lenses should be used if you are nearsighted).

Dietary regimen and adherence to follow-up appointment schedules.

Proper nutrition plays a crucial role in promoting tissue regeneration and minimizing the formation of unsightly scars.

  • Foods to avoid: Limit foods that can easily cause keloid scarring, itching, pus formation, or slow down the healing process, such as water spinach, beef, seafood, sticky rice, and chicken. Absolutely avoid alcohol, beer, cigarettes, and stimulants.

  • Recommended foods to include: Increase water intake, supplement with foods rich in Vitamins A and C (citrus fruits, green vegetables), and foods rich in lean protein such as lean pork to help wounds heal faster.

  • Follow-up appointments: Adhere to the aesthetic clinic’s schedule for drainage (if necessary), suture removal (usually after 7-10 days), and regular check-ups on the progress of the nose’s shaping. If any unusual symptoms appear, such as fever, foul-smelling nasal discharge, or severe pain, contact your doctor immediately for prompt treatment.
