Popular nose augmentation methods today: Advantages and disadvantages

Nose augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures chosen to improve facial features, making the face more refined and harmonious. Currently, with the development of medical technology, there are three common nose augmentation methods applied depending on the nasal structure and the needs of each client.

1. Nose augmentation with implant placement (Korean nose augmentation)

This is a traditional rhinoplasty method that uses entirely artificial materials (such as silicone implants or Gore-tex) to raise the bridge of the nose from the base to the tip.

Advantage:

The procedure is quick, usually lasting only 30 to 45 minutes.

It is the least expensive of all current rhinoplasty methods.

Minimally invasive, with short swelling time and rapid recovery.

Disadvantages:

It only helps to raise the bridge of the nose; it cannot lengthen the tip of the nose or narrow the nostrils.

It is not suitable for people with very thin nasal skin or a short, upturned nose tip. If the lift is too high, it can easily lead to complications such as visible implant edges, redness, or perforation of the nasal tip skin.

2. Rhinoplasty with cartilage grafting

Rhinoplasty with cartilage grafting is an improvement on the traditional method. The surgeon will combine the use of artificial cartilage to raise the nasal bridge and use autologous cartilage (usually taken from the ear cartilage) to cover and protect the nasal tip.

Advantage:

Autologous cartilage acts as a natural cushion, protecting the nasal tip from the pressure of artificial cartilage, effectively eliminating issues such as redness, visible implant edges, or nasal bridge collapse.

After rhinoplasty, the tip of the nose has a gentle, smooth curve, appearing more natural compared to the method using only a nasal implant.

Disadvantages:

An additional minor surgical procedure is required in the ear area to harvest cartilage, so the client will have two wounds that need care.

Complex structural defects such as a humped nose, deviated septum, or an excessively short and upturned nose have yet to be completely resolved.

3. Structural Rhinoplasty

This is currently the most advanced and comprehensive method. The doctor will intervene deeply to reconstruct the entire shape of the nose. The nasal bridge is raised using high-quality artificial cartilage (such as Surgiform, Nanoform), while the nasal tip is reconstructed and extended using autologous cartilage (septal cartilage, rib cartilage) combined with ear cartilage.

Advantage:

Completely correct all nasal shape imperfections: from upturned noses, congenitally short noses, humped noses, wide nostrils to cases of noses deformed due to accidents or multiple failed surgeries.

It allows for the creation of various trendy nose shapes, such as the bold L-Line or the soft S-Line, depending on the facial proportions.

Exceptional durability, extremely high biocompatibility, and minimal risk of rejection.

Disadvantages:

The implementation costs are significantly higher compared to other methods.

This technique is very complex and must be performed by a highly skilled doctor at licensed aesthetic clinics.

The surgery and recovery time, including the time to reshape the body, will be longer.
