Abdominal liposuction is a major surgical procedure requiring a strict protocol to ensure absolute safety and achieve the desired aesthetic results. For a successful surgery, clients need to be aware of important considerations before and after the procedure.
Preparation phase before liposuction
-
Choose a licensed facility: Liposuction must be performed at licensed cosmetic surgery hospitals or general hospitals with cosmetic surgery departments approved by the Ministry of Health. Absolutely do not have it performed at small spas or beauty salons that are not authorized to perform major surgeries.
-
Comprehensive health check: Clients must undergo rigorous testing including blood tests, blood pressure measurement, electrocardiogram (ECG), abdominal ultrasound, drug reaction tests, etc. Individuals with a history of cardiovascular disease, severe hypertension, uncontrolled diabetes, or blood clotting disorders will not be eligible for this procedure.
-
Stop taking medications and stimulants: You need to abstain from alcohol and tobacco at least two weeks before surgery and stop taking any medications that may affect blood clotting as directed by your doctor.
Post-operative care phase at home
-
Wearing a compression garment continuously: This is mandatory for the first 4-6 weeks after liposuction. The compression garment helps flatten the skin surface, fix the abdominal shape, reduce swelling, and prevent fluid accumulation under the skin.
-
Cleaning the incision site and changing the dressing: Keep the liposuction incision sites dry and clean. Gently wipe with saline solution and change the dressing daily as directed by the nurse.
-
Appropriate exercise regimen: In the first few days, gentle walking around the room is recommended to stimulate blood circulation and aid in better fluid drainage, avoiding prolonged immobility. However, strenuous sports activities and heavy lifting should be absolutely avoided for at least the first month.
-
Healthy eating: Avoid foods that can easily cause keloid scarring or infection, such as water spinach, beef, seafood, and sticky rice. Increase your water intake and consume plenty of green vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins to help your body recover quickly.
